The Commission has asked the state government to apprise it about the action taken over the 1976 incident and its present status under the Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission report.
NCM member Farida Abdullah Khan has sought information in this regard by sending a letter to the Chief Secretary of UP, on the basis of a complaint filed by an NGO.
Rajhans Bansal, Director of Delhi-based Centre for Human Rights, has alleged in his complaint lodged with NCM that no action has been taken in the killing of 25 people, protesting against the forced sterilisation, in police firing in Khalapar Colony of Muzaffarnagar.
Twenty-three Muslims and two Hindus were killed in the incident, among which six were minor boys.
The complainant also alleged that no police official has been punished in connection with the case. The complainant demanded that the families of the deceased be paid Rs 20 lakh each as compensation.
