EMFA demands a special protection law for scribes

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) today organised a human chain in front of the Guwahati Press Club in protest against the alleged police excess on journalists and demanded a special protection law for scribes on duty.
Mediapersons of the city and civil society group activists also participated in the hour-long demonstration.
EMFA President Nava Thakuria condemned the alleged police atrocities on a woman television news reporter in Latasil police station on January 31 and also the arrest of journalists yesterday where they were protesting the incident in front of the state secretariat.
The forum has sent a memorandum to National Commission for Women urging appropriate action against the guilty, Thakuria said.

Meanwhile, Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said, "Law should take its own course. If policemen are taking law into their hands against the common people then it should not be tolerated.
