Eminent Odisha poet narrates experiences from life

Experiences from his life, his childhood and his native place form the crux of his poems, eminent Odisha poet Jayanta Mahapatra said here.
Childhood memories, the socio-cultural milieu of his state and his personal experiences constitute the theme of his work, said the Sahitya Akademi award winner in English poetry at a 'Kavi Anubadak' event last evening.
Mahapatra read out his poems 'Relationship', 'Hunger', 'Jayanta Mahapatra' among others at the event jointly organised by the Sahitya Akademi and Ajit Barua Anuragi Samaj.
Mahapatra, one of India's greatest contemporary poets, responded to the audiences' queries on his poems, what inspires him to write and how he made the transition from a physicist to a poet and litterateur.

Anubhav Tulasi, one of the finest poetic voices in Assamese literature, read out his Assamese translations of Mahapatra's poems.
Sahitya Akademi Convenor for Assamese Language Advisory Board presided over the function and made a strong pitch for the Akademi setting up an office in Assam for facilitating such events.
Gauhati University Professor Bibhash Choudhury spoke on the works of Mahapatra and how he managed to carve a poetic voice of his own writing in English.
