Over 300 employees had gathered at MAM Stadium here to take out a rally to Raj Bhawan to protest against the government but were intercepted in between by police at Indira Chowk in view of prohibitory orders imposed around Civil Secretariat area.

After a brief clash with police, over 50 government employees were detained and later released, most of them leaders of different organisations.

Routine work was affected in various government departments as the employees continued their strike for second consecutive day.

"There was strike in government offices and work was paralysed-- but government has turned a deaf ear to our strike...If the government does not implement the agreement, we will intensify our agitation," President Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) Mohammad Gafoor Dar said.

The striking employees, under the aegis of Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), are demanding a policy on regularisation of daily-wage earners, besides enhancement of retirement age from 58 to 68 years and removal of pay anomalies in clerical cadre.
