Employer sent to 1-day police custody in maid rescue case

A woman, arrested for allegedly assaulting and illegally confining a girl, stated to be a minor who worked as a maid in her house here, was today remanded to police custody till tomorrow by a Delhi court.
Accused Vandana Dheer, working with a private firm, was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha who conducted in-chamber proceedings in the matter and the police sought her custodial interrogation for a day.
According to court sources, the police told the magistrate that the victim was brutally assaulted by the accused and she is undergoing treatment.
The court allowed the police's plea and sent 50-year-old Dheer to police custody till tomorrow.
Sources also said the police has moved a plea seeking permission for conducting bone ossification test of the victim to ascertain her actual age.
The scared victim, a resident of Jharkhand, was rescued from Dheer's Vasant Kunj home where she had been working as a domestic help and was admitted to hospital with severe injuries.

The girl was badly injured and rescued by a joint team of NGO Shakti Vahini and Delhi Police from the ground floor of Dheer's residence last evening.
Dheer was arrested after police filed a case under various sections of the IPC and under the provisions of the Bonded Labour Act.
The girl had reportedly told police that she had been working with her employers for the past one year without getting any renumeration and they used to beat her up almost every day, apparently not happy with her work.
The girl was taken to Safdarjung Hospital for a medical check-up and after the doctor's report, a case was registered against Dheer last night.
