'Purbashree', an initiative of North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd (NEHHDC), was inaugurated in the Handloom Haat, in Janpath by Union Textiles Secretary Rashmi Verma.
The stall is expected to give a boost to promotion of handicrafts and handlooms products from the Northeast as it is showcasing a wide variety of ethnic and exquisite handlooms products which are eco-friendly and bio-degradable.
Verma said this is a "major" step wherein a designated place has been allocated to showcase the products of North East.
She said marketing is very important to showcase the products from North East and it is a "significant" step in this direction.
NEHHDC markets handicrafts and handlooms of the North Eastern Region through its chain of emporia located at Shillong, Guwahati and New Delhi and also through its Regional Sales Promotion Offices located in Bengaluru and Chennai.
Besides, NEHHDC conducts 50-80 exhibitions and marketing events per year across the country and abroad for showcasing the handicrafts and handlooms items of the North Eastern Region.
