Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi, today asked other 'major' revenue-earning departments in the union territory to emulate the example of the electricity department in collecting outstandings from targeted sections.
In a whatsapp message to reporters here, Bedi said, "Similar to the action of the electricity department by issuing public notice through newspapers and announcements through FM radio, other 'major' revenue-earning departments should also initiate action to collect the outstandings.
She said after issuing the public notice, the local administration department should recover property, professional, octroi, development and other municipal taxes through legal action under the Revenue Recovery Act.
"Collective efforts made for recovery of the dues by all departmentswill enable generation of much-needed funds for infrastructure development," she said, while calling for a review meeting on July 9.
The former IPS officer had yesterday suggested adopting 'name and shame' approach to the electricity department to recover the arrears of Rs 120 crores from various categories of power consumers by naming the defaulters in newspaper and through announcements in FM radio.
