An encounter took place in Rajwar belt of Handwara, 80kms from here, after security forces launched a search operation to flush out militants, the officials said.
They said there was no immediate report of any casuality on the either side in the gunfight which lasted for a brief period.
Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a hunt was on to nab the militants, the officials said.
