The squad removed a slab built over the drain in front of the residence of Singh in the posh Vipul Khand locality of Gomti Nagar this afternoon.

The house is presently under construction and the former cabinet secretary has to shift there by month end as he has to vacate his official residence as per court orders.

Meanwhile, urban development minister Azam Khan said that the slab built over the drain had to be removed as it was obstructing the flow of water and its cleaning.

Refusing that there was any motive behind the action, Khan said that similar action had been taken elsewhere also to facilitate the movement of common public without caring for the status and influence of the people occupying the houses nearby.

Such a move sends a strong message to common people either to themselves remove their encroachments or refrain them from making complaints, Khan said.

Khan, however, stressed that extra care is taken while removing encroachments which facilitate livelihood of the common people by providing them alternative.
