Against the backdrop of cleanliness campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today asked SP workers to engage in "intellectual tactics" to "cleanse communal forces".
"Sampradaiyik shaktiyon ki kaise safai ho hame dekhna hai...Ye chalu log hain. Buddhi daon lagayenge tabhi inse lad payenge (We have to see how to cleanse communal forces. They are cunning people. We can only fight with them, if we engage in intellectual tactics," he said.
Apparently referring to his nomination by Modi in cleanliness campaign, Akhilesh, without naming anyone, said that to divert from important issues of black money, unemployment, price-rise and implementation of its (BJP's) manifesto, a debate has been started on cleanliness.
"There should be debate on core issues of black money, unemployment, price-rise and implementation of its manifesto...This will help the society," he said, addressing a gathering at a function at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences here.
On cleanliness, he said Samajwadi Party always favoured it and was already doing a lot in this regard in Uttar Pradesh, and also called attention to global warmning and other issues.
"It was SP, which planted maximum number of trees in its regime. Parks in the name of Lohia and Janeshwar Mishra in city is providing oxygene to Opposition also," Yadav quipped.
Akhilesh also took a dig at the saffron party over a waste-to-power plant constructed in the city at the initiative of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, saying the plant could not work due to lack of "quality waste".
"When a journalist inquired about the non-functinoal plant, he was told by engineers that it could not run due to lack of quality waste. Can there be a waste with quality?" he said.
Asking party workers to popularise work done by the SP government, he said, "We have started work for Metro and will start it by end of 2016. We have also reduced VAT on cycles. We are ahead in working but lacked in promoting our good work. This an era of technology and we should also focus on highlighting what we are doing.
