The Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce (ICCC) today evinced keen interest in exploring business opportunities in India and further strengthen trade between the two countries.
A high-powered delegation of the ICCC, led by Bonnie Crombie, Mayor of city of Mississauga, was welcomed here by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I).
The ICCC delegation intends to visit seven cities -- Mumbai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and New Delhi -- to explore the areas of cooperation.
Speaking on the occasion, Crombie sought enhanced FDI, while exploring business opportunities in West Bengal.
BCC&I President Sutanu Ghosh emphasised the potential for business collaboration between Canada and West Bengal.
During the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Canada in April 2015, both sides agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a strategic partnership, Ghosh said.

Over the years, an array of institutional mechanisms has been put in place to promote bilateral cooperation. Both nations are also members of multilateral forums such as G-20, ARF and CHOGM, he said.
Canada is home to over 1.2 million persons of Indian origin (PIOs), who comprise more than 3 per cent of its population. The highly educated, affluent and industrious PIOs, one of the largest immigrant groups in Canada, are well integrated with the mainstream and serve as a strong bridge between the two nations, Ghosh said.
Over the past decade, Canada and India have witnessed remarkable growth in two-way trade and investment, people-to-people ties and bilateral cooperation.
