Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has directed Chief Secretary M M Kutty to ensure there was sufficient stock of medicines in government-run hospitals as he warned of strict action against concerned officers for not complying with the order.
Kejriwal's direction comes after some persons complained at the Chief Minister's 'Janta Darbar' that free medicines were not being provided to patients in some of the government hospitals.
"CM has directed the Chief Secretary to resolve the issue at the earliest and if it continues, concerned officers will be held liable for insufficient stock of medicines in government hospitals," a senior government official said.
The government also feels that this (insufficient stock of medicines) was being "deliberately" done to "tarnish" the image of the AAP government, sources said.
At all government hospitals, medicines are provided free of cost to patients. Diagnostic tests are also done free.
