The move comes in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive to doctors to prescribe only generic drugs.
The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) asked all its members to prescribe only when there are drug combinations and issue directions to pharma companies to maintain the quality of the drugs since they are also important pillars of the system.
"We want to convey here that it is not the case that we don't prescribe generic drugs but currently the accessibility and quality of these drugs are serious issues which are very much beyond our control," it said.
"Ideally, for every 50 manufacturers, we will need one drug inspector and for every 200 medical stores, a single drug inspector and the government will have to provide this," it said.
