Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan apprehends that electronic gadgets could be misused to influence the July 17 presidential polls process and has written to the Election Commission to ensure that such a thing does not happen.
In a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), which has been posted on his Twitter page, Paswan has expressed concern that in an "age of sophisticated electronic gadgets, there is a strong possibility that these may be misused during the voting process for the presidential elections to snoop over the electors and thereby violate Article 55(3) of the Constitution that ensures a secret ballot."
He cautioned that "if this happens it would be a brazen attempt to intimidate" the voters.
The LJP leader has sought deployment of independent observers at all polling centres for President's elections.
"The CEC has been requested to depute independent observers at all the polling centres for President's election," Paswan tweeted.
The CEC has also been requested to ensure that no spying cameras or such other electronic devices are installed at the polling centres.
