Calling upon both the state and central governments to depute teams to assess losses in the floods, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today demanded that essential commodities be dispatched to remote and inaccessible areas of Poonch and Rajouri districts.
"Both state and central governments should depute teams to assess losses in Poonch and Rajouri districts. We demand that essential commodities be dispatched to the remotest and inaccessible areas of these twin districts," PDP general secretary Yash Pal Sharma said, after visiting several flood-affected areas of these districts.
He also asked the authorities to restore power and road connectivity in Poonch district. He regretted that rain has stopped five days ago but the authorities have failed to restore power and road connectivity in Poonch district.
Sharma that the inhabitants of these areas were facing acute shortage of ration, drinking water and power. Besides, many people whose house have been washed away in the flood are facing problem of accommodation and they are compelled to sleep under open sky, he said.
Sharma regretted that official machinery has completely collapsed and the authorities were looking helpless to cope up with the present scenario. He pointed out that sufferings of the people were increasing with every passing day but the authorities are still in deep slumber.
He asked the Centre and the state government to supply ration to the people and restore water and power supply at the earliest.
