A division bench of Justices Dalip Singh and Bela M Trivedi gave the order on the petitions filed in a murder case by two petitioners.
The bench found that the investigating officer, Kamlesh Choudhary, in the said case had tried to mislead a trial court by tampering records.
"In order to prevent any manipulation or tampering of public documents and papers of investigation at the instance of the investigating officers, it is directed that in all cases, the concerned officers shall produce a certified copy of the case diary in sealed cover along with the papers of charge sheet as and when it is filed in the court," the judges directed.
The Director General of Police shall also issue necessary instructions to all the concerned police stations in this regard, the court said.
The courts shall also see to it that such a copy of case diary is filed by the investigating officer in sealed cover along with the charge sheet, the court said.
The DGP police was also directed to take necessary action against Choudhary who had tampered with the evidence with the intention to help the accused in the said murder case.
