Ensure timely medicine supply to health institutions: LC panel

Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council today directed the Health and Medical Education Department to ensure timely supply of life-saving drugs to all health units in the state.
The Department Related Standing Committee of the council directed the authorities at a meeting to review functioning of the Health and Medical Education Department here. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of MLC Vijay Bakaya.
The committee was informed that every year medicines worth Rs 92 crore were being supplied free of cost to the patients in the state.
Taking note of rise in dengue cases in Jammu Division, particularly in Samba district, in the past few months, the committee asked for removing abandoned tyres and other rotten material from transport yards and workshops which are the causes of mosquitoes breeding.
The committee was informed that AIDS counselling and testing centres have been set up in all district headquarters and in regional hospitals and sub-district hospitals of the state, adding that an amount of Rs 350 crore is being expended under NRHM to upgrade the infrastructure of health sector.
Reviewing the present status of super speciality hospitals both in Jammu and Srinagar, the committee decided to visit these institutions to oversee their functioning. It also sought detailed report of the status of Trauma and Emergency Hospitals set up so far and which are proposed to be set up in near future at different locations in the state.
