Citizenship Act protest: Entry, exit gates of all Delhi metro stations open

In the wake of violence in southeast Delhi after a protest against the amended Citizenship Act, DMRC closed the gates of around 13 metro stations on Sunday evening

In the wake of violence in southeast Delhi after a protest against the amended Citizenship Act, the Delhi Metro Rail corporation (DMRC) closed the gates of around 13 metro stations on Sunday evening, following advice from police.

"Security Update Entry & exit gates at all stations have been opened. Normal services have resumed in all stations," the DMRC said in a tweet on Monday.

"The Congress and its allies are stoking fire over the Citizenship Act, but people of northeast have rejected violence," he said during an election rally in Jharkhand.

Anti-Citizenship Bill protests: Internet services suspended in Aligarh, Meerut till noon

Internet services have been suspended in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh until Monday noon to maintain law and order, said District Magistrate Anil Dhingra.

 

In Aligarh also, net services will remain down in the wake of protests by students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Citizenship Bill protests: 50 students, detained during protests at Jamia, released

As many as 50 students, who were detained during protests at the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi on Sunday, were released in the early hours of Monday, police said.

 

Of the 50 students, 35 were released from the Kalkaji police station and 15 from the New Friends Colony police station, a senior police officer said.
