The Principal Secretary through a notification informed that the position of the check gates under the Department of Environment and Forests has been reviewed with a view to prepare a road map to abolish all check gates and suggest an alternative system for enforcing revenue compliance such as flying squads, surprise checks, self certification and intelligence based action.
Pursuant to the review, some of the check gates under the Department, which were abolished were Batiapara, Khanapara and Khanamukh check gates under Kamrup East division, Dumunichowki, Tulsibari and Ganeshmandir check gates under North Kamrup division and Uporhali under Kamrup West division of Central Assam Circle.
The BJP-AGP-BPF alliance Sarbananda Sonowal-led council of ministers at their their first cabinet meeting on May 25 had taken a decision to abolish all check gates.
