EOU unearths wealth worth Rs 2.66 crore from retd clerk

The Sleuths of Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police conducted multiple raids in Muzaffarpur today and seized unaccounted wealth worth Rs 2.66 crore from a retired clerk.
Sukhdeo Ojha had retired as a head clerk at Muzaffarpur civil surgeon- cum- chief medical officer in March 2013.
Additional Director General (ADG, Headquarters) Ravinder Kumar told reporters that the seized assets include 86 katthas of land at different places in Muzaffarpur, building of Buddha Industrial Training Institute (ITI), two multi-storeyed buildings, and a flat at Ranchi.
"Ojha had joined government service in 1976. The total savings from all sources of income has been estimated at Rs 78.5 lakh. Apart from disproportionate assets, he has also grossly under-declared the prices of his property," said Kumar.
Bank deposits worth Rs 11 lakh, a Special Utility Vehicle (SUV), a car and two motorcycles have also been seized from the retired official. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 has also been registered.
EOU sources said that 24 bank accounts belonging to Ojha and his kin have also been traced. The sleuths are trying to assess them.
The EOU also trapped Shiv Nandan Suman, Block Education Officer (BEO) of Simri Bakhtiyarpur in Saharsa district while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a teacher today.
