EPGL produces 23% more electricity at Salaya plant in Gujarat

Essar Power Gujarat Ltd (EPGL), which owns and operates the 1,200 MW Salaya power plant in Gujarat, today said it produced 23 per cent more electricity at 6,609 million units in 2014-15 fiscal.
EPGL, a subsidiary of Essar Power Ltd, operated the plant at 63 per cent of the capacity (called plant load factor) and produced 6,609 million units, which is about 23 per cent higher than FY14, the company said in a statement.
Merchant sales was at 411 million units, an increase of 89 per cent over FY14.
"During the year, availability to Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL), the state utility, stood at 80 per cent for the second consecutive year, despite severe challenges on the water supply front," it said.

Availability in September 2014 stood at 98 per cent, which was highest ever. Off take by GUVNL in FY15 was 21 per cent higher than in FY14.
"Going forward, the company expects to finish some of the associated infrastructure projects for the power plant viz, sea water pipeline system and coal conveyor corridor to improve its operations and reduce the carbon footprint even further, a step in the right direction," the statement said.
