Ephedrine worth Rs 4.5 crore seized in Kadapa, AP
Press Trust of India Hyderabad The Hyderabad zonal unit of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has seized 45.16 kg of the controlled substance ephedrine, worth Rs 4.5 crore, from an illicit manufacturing facility in the industrial development park at Kadapa in Andhra Pradesh.
The search was conducted on July 30, DRI said in a release today.
Though ephedrine is a medicinal compound, it can also be used to produce party drugs.
"The officers recovered and seized 45.165 kg of ephedrine, worth approximately Rs 4.5 crore in the international market, with raw materials, equipment and Rs 2,00,000 in cash. Proprietor of the firm was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and was remanded in judicial custody," the release said.
It is the first time that a controlled narcotic substance has been seized by DRI in Kadapa. In June, it had seized 50 kg of ephedrine from a hotel in Auto Nagar here, the statement added.
