ESCerts sale more than double to 23,295 on IEX

The sale of energy saving certificates (ESCerts) more than doubled to 23,295 at Indian Energy Exchange's recent trading session.
"In the trading session held on October 3, 2017 at the IEX, a total of 23,295 ESCerts were traded at Rs 1,200 per ESCert. This was 113 per cent higher than last weeks trade, which was 10,904 ESCerts," an IEX statement said.
According to the statement, the total buy bids were 51,925 ESCerts whereas the total sell bids were 2,36,031. As many as 40 participants traded in this session.
The next trading session is scheduled for October 10. ESCerts trading is conduced every Tuesday on IEX.
ESCerts is an instrument issued by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for every metric tonne of oil equivalent energy (MToE) saving achieved by the Designated Consumers (DC).
The BEE assigns specific energy consumption target to every DC. Consumers exceeding their targets are issued ESCerts whereas those who are not able to meet their targets have to purchase ESCerts.
Each certificate is a unique tradable entity traded exclusively on the exchange platform.
The Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is the market regulator, the BEE is the administrator and POSOCO is the registry for registering DCs as eligible entities, trading and book-keeping, for the ESCerts market.
