Essel Pallavapuram and Tambaram MSW Pvt LTd, fully-owned subsidiaries of Essel Infraprojects Ltd, had bagged the contract from Pallavaram Municipality for the project.
"The plant set up in Vengadamangalam (near Chennai) has been set up on design, build, operate and transfer basis and would treat 300 tonnes of municipal solid waste per day," Essel Infraprojects Ltd said in a statement.
"Essel Infra is pleased to associate with Government of Tamil Nadu in setting up the first state-of-the-art waste to energy plant. We are today, India's largest MSW company with eight projects in waste to energy segment," Essel Infraprojects CEO Ashok Agarwal said.
