Atrocities being faced by women being the centre of discussion not only in India but also in European nations, the 18th European Union Film Festival joins in chorus of voices of women across the world through the perspective of main female leads to share very different lives of women.
"Last year we had the theme of Laugh of a Girl's Life and this year we decided to return with a women centric theme again, said Pavel Svitil, Minister Counsellor, Deputy Head of delegation of European Union to India.
On the occasion of the 50 years of EU-India diplomatic relations, European Union is set to inaugurate its Film Festival here on May 8, the eve of Europe Day and scheduled to continue till May 19.
The films will be screened around the city in various centres like Alliance Francaise, Institute of Cervantes, Hungarian Cultural Centre, Italian Cultural Centre and British Council.
"The main idea was not to screen a French Film in Alliance Franaise. In order to mix the audiences, we will screen the Hungarian film and so on and so forth," said Jean-Philippe Bottin, Director, Alliance Franaise de Delhi .
The festival was launched in Coimbatore on March 8 this year to coincide with the International Women's Day and has already traveled to Bangalore, Pune, Chennai, Goa and Mumbai.
"We wanted to take good films and not something average. So we had strong criteria that all the films should be award winning films. These films show Europe and its diversity," says Svitil.
The viewers will have the opportunity to watch a selection of 24 films that have not been screened in India yet. All the films will all be screened in national languages, with subtitles in English.
