A rare Eurasian Otter has been spotted in Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR) of Madhya Pradesh recently, an official said.
"This is for the first time that a Eurasian Otter has been found in central India," STR field director Anil Nagar told PTI today.
The animal was recently captured in one of the cameras installed at the reserve, he added.
"It is a critically-endangered species in the world. In India, Eurasian Otter is generally found in the Himalayas and in some parts of the Western Ghats," an official said adding that they are amphibians.
This mammal has been listed as 'rare' in the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of 2004 and 2008.
According to the official, the life span of an Eurasian Otter was around four years and their staple food is fish.
