Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) here today demanded that the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) withdraw their decision to boycott evaluation and not "jeopardise" the careers of students.

Scores of activists of the RSS-affiliated students' organisation held a protest demonstration outside the Press Club of India (PCI), where as a press conference of DUTA was underway.

The conference was attended by representatives of various political parties which supported the teachers' body.

DUTA has been boycotting the evaluation for a month now to protest the new faculty reservation mechanism in universities and a host of other issues.

There was heavy police presence along with paramilitary personnel outside the PCI.

"Some of the demands of the teachers' body might be genuine and the administration should hear them out. But the teachers should adopt other means of protest and not jeopardise the career of students," said one of the protesters.

Another said that if their results are delayed, their chances to pursue post-graduation at other universities could be "severely hampered".

Meanwhile, the Delhi University again appealed to the teachers to start the evaluation work.

In a statement, it said, "This appeal is being issued in view of the critical nature of the timely availability of results for a vast number of students who are seeking admission to various courses in india and abroad or are aspiring to get jobs to support their families."
