VVPAT is a system attached to an EVM that allows a voter to verify that his/her vote was cast correctly. This mechanism would detect possible election fraud or malfunctioning of an EVM.
The field trials had earlier been conducted in July last year and will be conducted again in Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, besides Sohra, the sources said.
While the training for officials will be held on August 23 and 24, the polling will take place on August 25 from 7 AM to 3 PM in 36 polling stations, the sources said.
The counting of votes has been scheduled to be held on August 27.
The mock poll was necessitated again after several political parties requested the EC that the possibility of introducing Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail along with EVMs may be examined properly.
