Ex-Mizo finance minister widow murder accused confesses
Press Trust of India Aizawl Police today claimed Lalrempuia, the accused in the murder of the widow of former Mizoram Finance Minister John Lalsangzuala, has confessed having commited the crime when she resisted his bid to steal money.
Aizawl district SP C. Laldina Zokhumi (83) said Zokhumi, the widow and a well-known teacher, was killed in her bedroom in Mission Veng locality here on December 17 night when she spotted the youth to try breaking open the almirah.
The accused, grandson of Lalsangzuala, the late husband of the victim, had been arrested in a past on charges of a boy's murder in 1994, desecrating Kulikawn Presbyterian Church in past.
The body of Zokhumi was found in a pool of blood on her bed on December 18 morning with her throat slit and around Rs 64,000 in cash missing from her almirah.
