The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) today announced the name of former Odisha police chief Sanjeev Marik as party candidate from Godda and Shashibhusan Mehta from Panki Assembly constituencies to contest the May 16 bypolls.
"Our party has decided to field Sanjeev Marik from Godda and Shashibhusan Mehta from Panki in the bypolls," JMM's working president and former chief minister Hemant Soren told a press conference here.
Marik had joined the JMM recently.
Asked if the party was looking to forge an alliance, Soren said the party had not left any stone unturned in trying for an alliance, but no party showed any "special interest" in it leaving JMM to prepare for itself.
"...We are strong in these constituencies and the party is ready... Only JMM can stop the BJP, nobody else can...," he claimed.
The by-elections are necessitated following deaths of Bidesh Singh, who represented Congress from Panki, and Raghunanand Mandal, who represented BJP from Godda.

To a query on JMM nominating Shashibhusan Mehta despite facing murder charges and is on bail, Soren hit back saying "You got only my party for scrutiny! Ask all other parties too."
"If the Election Commission asked the party not to contest then the party would not," Soren said, adding "everything would be before the EC through nomination of papers."
Mehta had finished second in the 2014 Assembly elections and third in 2009 as independent candidate.
