The demonstration at Jantar Mantar saw a number of retired paramilitary men demanding that the government provide them with facilities like canteens, allotment of land for creating cooperative group socities and recognising their services like that of the defence forces.
"We have several demands from the government. The 'One Rank, One Pension' (OROP) should be extended to us also and a special paramilitary service pay should be given, among 15 other demands," Ranbir Singh, National Coordinator of the Confederation of Ex-Paramilitary Forces Welfare Associations, said.
There are about 8 lakh personnel serving in these forces working under the command of the Union Home Ministry and rendering a variety of duties in the internal security demand like undertaking anti-Naxal operations and guarding Indian borders, to name a few.
