After the defence veterans, a group of ex-paramilitary personnel today held a demonstration here demanding OROP, special service pay and restoration of the old pension scheme for the lakhs of troops working in these forces.
The demonstration at Jantar Mantar saw a number of retired paramilitary men demanding that the government provide them with facilities like canteens, allotment of land for creating cooperative group socities and recognising their services like that of the defence forces.
"We have several demands from the government. The 'One Rank, One Pension' (OROP) should be extended to us also and a special paramilitary service pay should be given, among 15 other demands," Ranbir Singh, National Coordinator of the Confederation of Ex-Paramilitary Forces Welfare Associations, said.
Singh said the veterans from these forces like Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force and Sashastra Seema Bal will submit a memorandum in this regard to the Union Home Ministry and the Prime Minister's Office.
There are about 8 lakh personnel serving in these forces working under the command of the Union Home Ministry and rendering a variety of duties in the internal security demand like undertaking anti-Naxal operations and guarding Indian borders, to name a few.
