Ex UP min, 5 others let off by court in SP leader murder case

A former Uttar Pradesh minister and five others have been acquitted in an eight-year-old sensational murder of a former SP legislator by a local court for lack of evidence.
Former BSP minister Sangram Singh Verma his brother Surendra Singh Verma and four others were let off yesterday by Special Additional Judge (SC/ST) ACP Arvind after all the witnesses turned hostile.
Former SP MLA Hardev Rawat was shot dead on January 7, 2006 when he was campaigning for Zila Panchayat polls in Laxmanpuri colony here, according to the prosecution.
The nephew of the deceased had registered a case against the six and a charge sheet was also filed against them, he said.
However, all the four eye witnesses in the case turned hostile during the course of the trial.
Citing lack of evidence the court acquitted all the accused.
