Ex-VC of MP varsity under CBI scanner

CBI today carried out searches at nine locations after registering three cases against a former Vice-Chancellor and members of selection committee of Hari Singh Gour Central University in Sagar in Madhya Pradesh for alleged irregularities in the appointment process.
The agency registered three cases against them regarding appointment of allegedly ineligible candidates in the departments of Geography, Criminology and Forensic Science and Fine Arts and Performing Arts.
Four assistant professors appointed under the process have also been named in the cases registered by the agency.
CBI alleged that appointments were made in violation of the regulations of UGC and the conditions mentioned in the recruitment advertisement.
"Searches have been conducted today at nine places in the residential and office premises of the accused persons at Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), Kanpur (Uttar Pradesh), Karnal (Haryana) and Nagpur (Maharashtra)," CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad said here today.
She said during the searches at the residential premises of former Vice-Chancellor, special term deposit receipt of Rs 26 lakh, bank balance of Rs 50 lakh (approx) documents of three flats at Lucknow, Noida and Nagpur and certain gold jewellery have been recovered.
"Incriminating documents and articles recovered during searches are being scrutinised," she said.
