The arrests came following investigations into a tip-off that some impersonators will appear for the economics examination of the NOS on Sunday at a school in Karawal Nagar.
The arrested have been identified as Jitender Kumar (18), Amit Chauhan (23), Satish Kumar (27), Shushma (30), Vijender Kumar (20) -- all alleged impersonators -- and coaching centre owner Shashi Bhushan Singh (36) and NOS employee Ajay Kumar (22).
Following interrogation of the five alleged impersonators, Singh and Ajay were arrested.
"It has come to light that Shyam Sharma, Manager of Senior Secondary School in Sadatpur Extension, is kingpin of the racket. Sharma with the connivance of Singh ran the racket. Shyam is absconding," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Chand said.
The modus operandi of the racket was that the candidates who wished to clear the Higher Secondary examination from NOS approached Bhushan.
"Bhushan would assure the candidate of guaranteed success and tied him with Shyam, who had roped in Ajay, a PT teacher in his school. The candidate was allowed to bring in someone who impersonated on behalf of the candidate.
"Bhushan charged Rs 5,000-7,000 for each examination. He paid Rs 3,000 per candidate per exam to Shyam Sharma. The racket has been in operation for around four years," Chand said. PTI SJY
