Madhya Pradesh Congress Sevadal today demanded that EVMs should be examined for efficiency by software engineers, failing which it would stage a protest before the Election Commission.
"We are of the opinion that results can be influenced under the EVM system. The electronic voting machines should be examined in the presence of five software engineers which also include experts of our choice. The process should be video recorded and its results should be made public," state Sevadal president Yogesh Yadav told reporters.
The EVMs are being used only in India while 36 other nations, including the US, have banned the use of vote recording machines, he said.
"These machines were imported from abroad and therefore, there will always be a doubt on their functioning," he said.
Yadav said that if the Election Commission fails to examine the machines as desired within a month, he will sit on a "fast unto death" before the poll body in New Delhi.
