The driver of a hydraulic excavator was killed when rubble from a landslide fell over the machine in Uttarkashi district, the State Emergency Operation Centre here said Thursday.
The incident occurred at the site of an under-construction motor road at Thisingin Mori area of the district Wednesday evening.
The driver of the excavator engaged in construction work at the site died on the spot after being hit by boulders falling from the hillside in the wake of a landslide, it said.
The deceased was identified as 21-year-old Dheeraj Rawat, who hailed from Seku village of the district.
The landslide may have been causedby heavy rains which have lashed various parts of Uttarakhand over the past few days.
