Public Health department executive engineer Bhagyadhara Sahu was suspended for dereliction of duty and failed to control the spread of jaundice in Balngir, said Chief engineer (PH), Khitish Chandra Sahu.
The administration, he said, felt that the executive engieer did not give adequate attention to purification of drinking water before it was supplied to the people through pipelines.
A preliminary investigations into the causes of spread of jaundice in Balangir town indicated that the reason behind the spread of jaundice in the city was due to contamination of drinking water.
Meanwhile, one more person from the town allegedly died of jaundice at a private hospital at Raipur in Chhattishgarh. Three other persons had earlier died of the water borne disease in Balangir town.
