Vigilance sleuths here today arrested an executive magistrate-cum-deputy collector who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe.
Gayan Kumar Ram, posted in Sasaram sub-division of Rohtas district, was caught by a team headed by Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police Vimalendra Prasad Verma while accepting Rs 10,000 from the complainant inside his office.
"We acted on a complaint by Urmila Devi, who had alleged that the official had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 for granting her relief with regard to three bighas of land belonging to her husband", Verma told reporters.
"The land, falling in Garbhe village, had been attached by an order invoking Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code", the Deputy SP said.
The official was interrogated by a nine-member vigilance team headed by the Deputy SP before being taken to Patna where he is likely to be produced before a designated court.
