Taking further their initiative to help educate orphan children, students from the All India Medical Institute (AIIMS) are conducting an exhibition where the doctors-to-be raise awareness on issues such as organ donation and drug abuse.
"Catalyst," the two-day exhibition organised by 'Parivartan', the social service wing of Students' Union of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is targeted at children from IX to XII standards.
The showcase is in its second year and exhorts children to take up medicine as a profession.
"Human anatomical and pathological specimens and also some of the Physiology and Microbiology experiments are being demonstrated," Ebin K Sebastian, chief organiser of the event said.
"This event also addresses public health issues such as substance abuse, organ donation, vaccination and first aid from a new perspective enabling visitors to take necessary measures in case of emergency," Sebastian said.
Aiming to tap interests of children towards the study of medicine, organisers with the support of AIIMS authorities have set up counters to provide hands-on experience.
"Most visitors are happy and kids especially are very keen to take up medicine as some of them told us after having used some of them specimens and enjoying the experiments," Sebastian, a 3rd year student at AIIMS said.
