CanKids...Kidscan, National Society for Change for Childhood Cancer in India, today organised an exhibition at Taj Mahal here where about 1,500 children with cancer, survivors and families will be visiting the landmark till September 27.
The exhibition is part of the Go Gold India- Taj Goes Gold and UP Goes Gold campaign, which is a childhood cancer survivor-led campaign, a statement issued by the organisation said.
"The most important element of the campaign is the exhibition at the Taj Mahal and Chalo Chalein Taj programme under which 1,500 children with cancer, survivors and families will visit the Taj Mahal for this exhibition," it said.
"CanKids will be taking these children as part of their Patient and Family Engagement, Social Mobilisation and Social advocacy Taj Goes Gold Fiesta and Chalo Chalien Taj campaign from September25 to 27," it said.
It said the other important element of the campaign is the collectionof 2,50,000 signatures by the survivors, one for each child diagnosed with cancer worldwide.
Through the campaign the survivors would advocate to Central and state governments that childhood cancer should be a child health priority in India, the statement said.
These signatures will later be presented to the Prime Minister, it said.
WHO representative to India Henk Bekedam said CanKids are not only raising awareness for survival and treatment of cancer patients, especially children, but also are supporting families and the children.
