Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice Gita Mittal today stressed on the need to expedite trial in cases of atrocities and domestic violence against women.
Justice Mittal, who was sworn-in as the first woman Chief Justice of the J-K High Court last week, made the remarks during her maiden visit to the district court complex in Moominabad here.
She was accompanied by Justices Ali Mohammad Magrey and Alok Aradhe.
The chief justice said the judges should work to ensure speedy disposal of long-pending cases on priority.
While interacting with women lawyers, she complemented them for choosing this profession.
"Women who visit court for their cases or justice feel comfortable while discussing their cases with women lawyers," she said.
Justice Mittal added that the women lawyers should ensure that women's rights are protected during trial.

She also directed all the officers who inspect prisons to ensure that the fundamental rights of the inmates are protected and all the facilities under law are provided to them.
Legal experts from other states and countries will be invited for exchange of ideas, she said.
