Sitting MLA and former Union minister Chaman Lal Gupta, who was expelled from BJP in connection with cash-for-vote scam in Legislative Council polls in 2011, today returned back to the party fold in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gupta was accorded warm reception by MP and party in charge of Jammu and Kashmir Avinash Rai Khanna and Leader of Legislative Party Ashok Khajuria at BJP headquarters here on his return to the party.
Khanna, while welcoming him, said Gupta has vast political experience at grassroots level, state level as well as at national level.
Gupta will obviously prove to be beneficial for the party in the ensuing Assembly elections and achieving our mission of winning minimum of 44 seats, Khanna said.
"Being known to the rank and file of the party activists is going to be very much helpful in the electioneering," Khanna said and expressed hope that Gupta will put his best efforts in the electioneering.
Gupta said that his being amongst his party colleagues is a happy augury for him and would enable him to continue his life mission of public service of the state and especially of the Jammu region.
"It would be my endeavor to put my full weight behind the party efforts in the ensuing elections," he said.
Gupta, who was BJP Legislative Party leader in Jammu and Kashmir, was expelled for allegedly cross voting in Legislative Council election in April 2011.
