The National Green Tribunal has asked the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) to explain how inaccurate and incomplete documents were uploaded on its website on various subjects falling in its domain.
"It will be appropriate for us to notice here that in large number of cases applicants are complaining that the permission granted/refused are not uploaded on the website of the MoEF for considerable time and even when uploaded the website of the MoEF was not functional. There are inaccuracy and incomplete documents being uploaded on the website of the MoEF.
"Let the officer concerned of MoEF explain this aspect. The person in-charge from (National Informatics Centre) shall also be present before us on the next date of hearing," a bench headed by NGT chairman Justice Swatanter Kumar said.
The NGT was hearing a plea challenging the environmental clearance (EC) granted to fell trees in the Parsa East and Kanta Besan coal blocks in Chhattisgarh.
The applicant in the case, Samir Mehta, told the tribunal that while the clearance order, submitted before the NGT, shows EC was granted on December 21, 2011, the MoEF website shows that the application for EC was received on July 30, 2012.
"This contradiction is unexplainable and the responsible officer of MoEF be present in Tribunal and explain this anomaly on the next date of hearing," the bench, also comprising judicial member Justice P Jyothimani, said.
The tribunal fixed the matter for further hearing on March 6.
