While the National emblem has the Lion Capital of Ashoka under which "Satyamev Jayate" is written, the logo of Supreme Court has Ashoka Chakra, Lion Capital of Ashoka and "Yatodharma Stato Jaya" written under it.
An RTI applicant approached the apex seeking to know the basis, such as any enactment, guidelines, notification or regulation, for the expression "Yatodharma Stato Jaya" appearing underneath its seal.
"The appellant submitted that all he wanted to know was about the law or guidelines or notification under which the Supreme Court of India had adopted 'Yatodharma Stato Jaya' as part of its logo," Chief Information Commissioner Satyananda Mishra observed after hearing the arguments of the applicant and the Supreme Court counsel.
Ordering to find some relevant records about the information sought by Mohod, he said, "Since the Supreme Court of India had chosen for its logo a different expression from what the Government of India had adopted (Satyamev Jayate) for the National Emblem, there must be some record of it."
