A huge quantity of gelatin sticks and cordex wires were recovered from an unclaimed bag by the GRPF in Guwahati Railway Station tonight on the eve of the 19th National Youth Festival beginning here tomorrow.
During routine patrolling the bag containing 106 gelatin sticks and six wire rolls was noticed in platform number three by the security personnel, said GRPF sources. (an official in the GRPF office in the railway station)
To which militant outfit the explosives belonged or who was carrying them was not immediately known as investigations were on, the sources said.
Security measures have been intensified in the railway stations and the city where nearly 5000 youths from across the country have congregate to showcase their talent in the field of art and culture at the Festival, police said.
At the opening ceremony of the Festival, organised by the union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the state government, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is scheduled to be the chief guest and union youth Affairs and Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will preside over the ceremony.
