Explosives seized from vehicle at Guwahati, three arrested

A huge quantity of explosives, including gelatin sticks and detonators, have been seized in Guwahati from a vehicle and three persons arrested in this connection, the police said today.
On a tip off about a vehicle with suspected explosive substances, the police from Basistha police station here, intelligence unit of 175 bn CRPF and E175 CRPF bn conducted joint checking of vehicles at Koinadhara point near the Chief Minister's residence last night, a police release said today.
A mini truck travelling from Jorabat side to Basistha Chariali was signalled to stop for checking, but it defied the orders and sped towards Basistha Chariali, said the release by Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Police District, Guwahati.
The Police chased and stopped the vehicle near Kinara Kata on National Highway 37 and on checking recovered 20 cartons with 20 gelatin sticks, 20 packets containing 50 electric detonators and ten packets containing 100 plain detonators.
Three persons - Udhav Das, Jitu Baishya and Mrinal Deka travelling in the vehicle on preliminary questioning said the explosives were being taken towards Baihata Chariali from Meghalaya, the release said.
Stating the vehicle was also seized, it said case no. 1235/15 u/s 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act was registered and investigations were on as to unearth the source and destination of the explosives.
The three were produced at a local court that sent them to four days police remand, the release added.
