Jeera prices moved up by 1.13 per cent to Rs 17,390 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators built up fresh positions amid pick up in domestic as well as exports demand.
Besides, restricted supplies from producing regions supported the upmove.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in March shot up by Rs 195, or 1.13 per cent, to Rs 17,390 per quintal with an open interest of 5,019 lots.
On similar lines, the spice for delivery in April contracts gained Rs 70, or 0.41 per cent, to Rs 17,200 per quintal in 3,414 lots.
Analysts said fresh positions built up by participants following uptick in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market against restricted supplies from producing regions, mainly led to the rise in jeera prices at futures trade.
