Exposure tour helps sarpanches gain positive outlook

After a 12-day tour to places across the country to gain an idea about economic and agricultural development, sarpanches and panches from the state today said that they are determined to bring about a positive change in their villages.
"During this tour I've learned a lot about development and I am determined to bring in a positive change in my village," Kachar village sarpanch Abdul Gani said during interaction at Udhampur-based Northern Command today.
The tour named 'Sair-e-Watan', a National Integration tour, under Operation Sadbhavana at Udhampur, was organised for sarpanches and panches from remote and backward areas of Khari Bowl of Ramban district to witness the economic developments and functioning of the panchayats.
Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, GoC-in-C, Northern Command received the team of sarpanches and panches, who were taken to different villages of Amritsar and Jaipur.
There they got an insight into the progress being made by the Panchayati Raj institutions and their role in various development activities.
"The tour has helped us to understand our potential as to how influential we can be in transforming the existing condition of poverty and unemployment in our villages," Trenna village's sarpanch Bashir Ahmed Naik said.
During their interaction with the General Officer sarpanches expressed their gratitude to the Army for organising the tour.
