The BJP supporters got a whiff of things to come early in the day and started smearing saffron "gulal" on each other. Their celebrations knew no bounds when the picture became clearer as the day progressed.
The supporters and workers of the BJP gathered at the party's Agartala office, much before the results were formally declared.
The celebrations elsewhere were no less either.
Thousands of people, including women, descended on the streets and danced to drum beats, distributed sweets and smeared colours on each other to celebrate the BJP's landslide victory against the CPI(M)-led Left Front in Tripura.

Crackers were burst and young men were seen moving in motorcycles, shouting "Bharat mata ki jai".
However, no incident of violence was reported from any part of the state.
"We were unemployed for long even after securing good results at the university-level. More than seven lakh young people are unemployed in the state. We hope employment will be generated for us and we will be able to earn livelihood," Madan Datta, a youth, said at Shantipara here.
The Assembly elections were held in three north-eastern states -- Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya -- in February. The results were announced today.
