"Everybody is doing well (with the current system). This (decision) will not only be a punishment, but you will teach the students to be lazy," Sardinha said here.
In accordance with the provisions of the Right to Education Act, the government had last month extended timings of all state schools to five-and-a-half hours a day.
He argued that the move will turn the intelligent students into a "mischievous" lot, as they will "start disturbing the class during the extra time."
